THE OLD MASTERS

A LOST ART

For those students who are interested learning the Old Masters Technique, they have a unique opportunity to train with our instructor, Brandon Flye. You can see some of his work utilizing this technique below

When you hear someone use the term "Old Masters" it generally refers to the most recognized European painters working between the Renaissance and 1800. Brandon Flye was trained in the lost art of these painters and utilizes their techniques, especially those of the Dutch (or Flemish) artists such as Vermeer, Ter Borch, Metsu, Dou, and contemporaries.

This painting technique utilizes panels instead of canvas and the same Maroger painting medium used since the 1600s. Through a strong use of chiaroscuro and layers of indirect glazes, these paintings have an astonishing realism, detail and luminosity that other techniques cannot rival.
